Meet The Team

Megan Yturriaga
Executive Director
Executive Director of Alternatives Pregnancy Center since 2017. I have a Master’s degree in Management from Indiana Wesleyan and a background in both social work and ministry. I'm from Indianapolis and moved to Iowa from Hawaii! I find one of the most rewarding things about Alternatives is “being in a compassionate environment that deeply believes in the inherent dignity and value of each person.”

Lindsay King
Nurse Manager
I have lived in the Cedar Valley since I was in high school, which is where I met my husband Luke. We’ve been married over 20 years and have 2 children. I had been involved with Alternatives for many years, both as a volunteer and a donor. I felt God calling me to the position of nurse manager in 2011 and I feel blessed to be able to mentor and minister to our clients.

Cara Burke
Client Service Director
I am a wife, mother, and grandmother of 4 boys. I have been involved at Alternatives for many years! I started as an advocate in 2005 and became the Client Services Director in 2010. Since I was in elementary school the passion was instilled in me for the women and babies that we serve here. My favorite things to do are spend time with my family, fellowship with friends, scrapbooking, and home improvement projects.

Dennette Stearns
Development Director
I volunteered at Alternatives for four years and have an intricate understanding of our ministry. I joined the staff in 2018 as the Development Director. My focus is on donor relations and diversifying our funding sources to ensure long-term financial stability. Working here has been a real blessing and honor. I am also a wife and mother of two.

Rachel Neil
Outreach Director | Abortion Recovery Care
Eldora Site Director
I live in the Cedar Valley with my husband and our two daughters. I began volunteering at Alternatives in 2018 as a client advocate. I was initially drawn to the Abortion Recovery & Care (ARC) program, and quickly discovered a passion for the ministry and the families we serve. I love helping people feel seen, encouraged, and reminded of God’s deep love for them. I joined the staff in 2022 as Outreach Director, ARC Coordinator, and Eldora Site Director. I have a degree in Ministerial Leadership and also serve on staff at our church.

Mike Hewitt
Waverly Site Director
Practical Fatherhood Director
I started out as the Community Relations Director here at Alternatives in October of 2021. I've transitioned into a new role in 2022 as the Waverly Site Director! I am also a wife, mother of 4, and a substitute teacher at the Denver Community School District. I graduated from UNI in Family Services in 2006 and was a stay-at-home mom for 13 years! I felt God calling me to meaningful work here at Alternatives and it’s been a privilege to join such a wonderful team!
Following my retirement in 2017, after 42 years in the automotive industry in Michigan, my wife of 38 years and I moved to Iowa. I began volunteering at Alternatives Pregnancy Center as an advocate in 2018 and in 2022 joined the staff as Fatherhood Director. I’ve been involved in men’s discipleship for over 20 years and find great joy in serving young men in hopes of helping them become better fathers. I am also the All Pro Dad Chapter Captain in Waterloo, giving the opportunity for fathers to spend quality time with their children during monthly chapter meetings. My wife and I enjoy camping, our grandchildren and riding bikes.

Independence Epley
Des Moines Site Director
I have been passionate about the pro-life mission for as long as I can remember, and I am thrilled to join the APC team as of June 2025. I grew up in the Cedar Valley and have been active in the work Alternatives does for a few years now as a volunteer. I am excited to serve in this role and watch God work in the lives of our clients and community. In my free time, I enjoy serving with a local young adult ministry and being active outdoors.

Kelsie Matthias

As a Cedar Valley native, I began volunteering at Alternatives while in high school. I graduated from Liberty University in 2023 and was blessed to take on my dream job here at Alternatives in 2024. My husband and I reside in the Cedar Valley and enjoy discovering new coffee shops and going on walks.
